EAST in Action

From project demonstrations to live student competitions, there are several opportunities for the public to see EAST in action at the 2015 EAST Conference.

Exhibit Hall

Visit over 200 EAST programs and EAST Core schools, all under one roof! EAST Programs look forward to sharing their projects and the ways they are making a difference in their communities. EAST Core schools will demonstrate how the EAST model has been integrated into curricular areas of education.

Public Hours

  • Wednesday, March 18 from 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM
  • Thursday, March 19 from 8:30 AM - Noon

Think BIG Project Display

The Think BIG Project Display was established as an area where schools could showcase and demonstrate their uniquely LARGE EAST projects at Conference. Examples from previous years include a weather balloon, a 3D printer, a hydroponics system and a drone.

Participation

Active EAST Program and EAST Core students are invited to showcase projects in this area that will not fit in their booth space. Students are not asked to create something new for this area or design a science fair type board. This space is reserved to showcase larger projects. Approval is required!

Approval Process

Due to the limited amount of space available, students may submit an online request by noon CST Friday, March 6. Click to access the Think BIG Project Display Request Form. If your project display request meets all criteria and we have configured all requests to fit in the space, you will receive a confirmation e-mail with approval to bring your display. Project requests will be approved on a first come, first served basis. Please make sure you receive this e-mail before you depart for Conference. Also, remember this area will probably have lots of people traffic and there is always a chance of something being broken. If you are worried about theft or accidents damaging your project, please consider not bringing the project or only displaying it in your booth.

BIGgest Showoff Award

Conference attendees will vote on their favorite large project display as part of the Best of Conference Awards. Schools wishing to be considered for this award MUST receive prior approval from the EAST Initiative staff to display any projects in the Think BIG Project Display.

Public Viewing Opportunities

The public is invited to view these projects during Exhibit Hall public hours. Please see the agenda for those times.

World of Tomorrow Workshop

The Solar Design Competition is a STEM outreach activity that provides K-12 students an opportunity to learn about solar energy and how it helps to power our world. Prior to Conference, teams will submit designs for building a solar-powered device that can benefit the community and potentially be launched as a new commercial product. Three teams will be selected as semi-finalists and will receive a travel stipend to attend the 2015 EAST Conference. They will have one day to build their designs, with a little help from our onsite engineers, in a fabrication laboratory (FAB LAB).

Participation

Active EAST Program students must be announced as a semi-finalist prior to Conference. See the official World of Tomorrow Workshop Competition page for more information about how to enter.
